Sound Connects Funds

Music4Malawi

Music4Malawi was set up in partnership with the Music in Africa Foundation, through two projects. The platform is a music and creative resource sharing platform - aiming at building capacity of Malawian artists and creatives from and based in Malawi through interactive workshops, content development and distribution as well as a music showcase event.

In 2021, Ntha Foundation was awarded a €10,000 grant  from Music in Africa Foundation to implement the “Music in Africa Live” Project.

In 2023, Ntha Foundation was awarded a €68,000 grant through the Sound Connects Fund to  scale the M4M (Music4Malawi) Initiative.

Sound Connects Fund

The Sound Connects Fund is an initiative by the Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) and Goethe-Institut; made possible with funding from the ACP-EU Culture Programme, a project implemented by the Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and funded by the European Union (EU). The Fund is also co-funded by Goethe-Institut and Siemens Stiftung.

Music In Africa Live

Live performances are the main source of income for many African musicians. However, the Corona pandemic severely restricted public life, and cultural events were also affected. In reponse, Music In Africa Live was pioneered by the Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) in partnership with the German Federal Foreign Office, Siemens Stiftung and Goethe Institut. Grants worth €740,000 were awarded to brands around Africa, supporting African production companies and artists in developing and promoting virtual concerts. In addition, the project financed continuing education opportunities that teach digital skills for creating online music projects.
