In March 2020, as the world braced for uncertainty, we planted a seed of hope.

Through the Ntha Foundation, we issued an open call for passionate young changemakers to join the first-ever cohort of the Nyenyezi Fellowship — a program designed to equip emerging African leaders with the tools, networks, and mindset to lead with creativity, purpose, and impact.
Out of hundreds of applications, 20 exceptional fellows were selected. Each was placed into one of our core development tracks — based on their background and aspirations — ranging from advocacy, storytelling, entrepreneurship, technology, and community development. The goal was simple: to nurture their potential and empower them to shine as nyenyezi — “stars” in Chichewa — within their communities and beyond.
On a bright Saturday in Lilongwe, with generous support from Sunbird Hotels & Resorts, we officially launched the 2020 Fellowship at Sunbird Capital Hotel. It was a milestone moment not only for the fellows, but for the Foundation — our very first formal program rollout under the broader vision of the Kwathu Kollective.

From that day forward, the Nyenyezi Fellowship has continued to grow — becoming a model for youth leadership and structured apprenticeship in Malawi. What began as a bold idea in 2020 has now evolved into a continent-wide mission to equip the next generation of African visionaries.
“The goal was never to create followers — it was to create stars.” — Nthanda Manduwi, Founder
