Building Knowledge for a Better World: WORLD SCIENCE DAY

Celebrating Science as a Pathway to Peace and Progress

Every year on 10 November, the world comes together to celebrate World Science Day for Peace and Development — a day that reminds us that science is not an abstract pursuit, but a living force shaping how we live, learn, and coexist.
At Ntha Foundation, we recognize science as both a tool for transformation and a language of peace — one that unites humanity in the shared pursuit of truth, innovation, and progress.

Science is woven into the very fabric of development. It helps us understand our environment, improve healthcare, strengthen education systems, and drive sustainable economies. But perhaps most importantly, it encourages critical thinking and dialogue, both essential to peaceful coexistence in a rapidly changing world.

Our Commitment to Evidence-Based Development

At the heart of Ntha Foundation’s work is a belief that knowledge must serve humanity. From our programs in education and digital literacy to our support for youth innovation and entrepreneurship, we embed scientific thinking in everything we do.

Through our initiatives — such as Digital Skills for Africa, the M’mawa Apprenticeship Programme, and Kwathu Kollective — we champion data-driven, innovative solutions to the challenges facing our communities. We see science not only as research and experimentation, but as a mindset: one that values curiosity, inquiry, and the pursuit of better systems for all.

Our programs cultivate skills in technology, data analysis, and problem-solving — empowering the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and leaders who will shape Africa’s development through science and evidence-based action.

Science for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth

In an era of global uncertainty — from the climate crisis to digital inequality — science provides the tools we need to adapt and thrive.
For Ntha Foundation, this means fostering partnerships that connect local innovation with global agendas such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in quality education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), and industry, innovation, and infrastructure (SDG 9).

We believe that when science is democratized — when access to knowledge, tools, and data is equitable — it becomes a foundation for peaceful, resilient communities. Our work continues to ensure that young Africans are not just participants but producers of knowledge, actively shaping the systems that define their future.

Harnessing Science for Peace

The link between science and peace is both powerful and practical.
Science teaches us to question without hostility, to test ideas through collaboration, and to make decisions grounded in evidence rather than emotion or ideology.
These same principles — curiosity, transparency, and dialogue — are at the core of peacebuilding.

As we mark this day, Ntha Foundation calls for greater investment in STEM education, innovation ecosystems, and knowledge sharing across the continent.
By empowering our communities through science, we create pathways to reduce conflict, improve governance, and build prosperity that endures.

A Call to Collective Action

World Science Day is not only a celebration — it’s a call to responsibility.
We must all play a role in ensuring that science continues to serve peace and development. Governments, academic institutions, private sector partners, and communities must work together to foster an environment where learning, research, and innovation are accessible and inclusive.

At Ntha Foundation, we remain committed to advancing this vision — ensuring that science and technology are used ethically, equitably, and effectively to improve lives.
