Vitumbiko (Vitu) Daisy Kaluwa is a young lady aged 23 who is an aspiring ICT Specialist.
The Ntha Foundation was thrilled to have Vitu join the M’mawa Management Program as the ICT Associate at Ntha Foundation. Vitu did her tertiary education at National College of Information and Technology where she got her Bachelors of science(Hons) in Computing and Information systems in August 2020.
Vitu chose to be involved in ICT because she noticed that the world is becoming more advanced in technology, and she wanted to be a part of it. She also noticed that a lot of problems we are facing in our country can be solved through ICT. She says she finds being involved in a male dominated profession exciting.
In recent years, ICT has become a very important part of our day to day life. It has provided better, newer, and quicker ways for people to network, interact, seek help, gain access to information, and learn. Information and Communication Technology has an immense economic significance. Malawi has realised the importance of ICT, and the Malawi Government shares a mission of facilitating the creation of an enabling environment for efficient, effective, and sustainable utilisation, exploitation, and development of ICTs in all sectors of the economy in order to attain an information-rich and knowledge-based society and economy.
The World Bank and Malawi Government are investing in organisations such as the Ntha Foundation through the Digital Malawi – Digital Skills For All Project to ensure more women are involved and learning about ICT.
Vitu has been inspired by many women in the tech and ICT industry. One of her role models is Susan Wojcicki who is the CEO of YouTube. Wojcicki has been in the tech industry for over 20 years. Wojcicki was involved in the founding of Google, and became Google’s first marketing manager in 1999. She is a firm believer in seeing more women in the ICT industry.
I hope one day to also teach and empower more women to take the career of ICT. The future is tech, I hope to see Malawi and it’s women being at the forefront of it all.
